Notes From Her Outdoors

I love the great outdoors. There's a lot out there to keep me fascinated.

Throughout 2010 I attempted to blog every new thing I saw as it came into season, wandered past me, or was found hiding in a sneaky niche.

Now I have the task of naming all the life I recorded - life was never sweeter.

This year I'm recording the things that catch my eye. and hopefully, will catch yours too.

Wish me luck, I'm going out!

Spider - Tuesday 31.5.11

I found this WEDGE SHAPED SPIDER today as I gardened, at first glance it resembled a WEEVIL.

It escaped before I could get a clear shot of it - sorry.

Yellow Crab Spider 31.8.10

I know this is a bit late, but I've had this image sitting around since the beginning of September (more or less).

It's a CRAB SPIDER.

The thing about CRAB SPIDERS is that they can change colour to match their surroundings. This little one had wound up on my fleece which was hanging on the washing line. I guess it couldn't quite make it to a bright pink, so it settled for a

BRIGHT YELLOW.

Bit of a contrast really!

Normally they're a ghostly white when we see them in our garden, so for me, to spot it in it's full colour change glory was pretty special.

Now we're into the Autumn, I'm finally getting it, spiders are like butterflies. Oh yes, yes they are. We have the big fat spiders in the garden now; we're not seeing Crab Spiders at all. Butterflies have similar cycles.

So...... Next year ....

SPIDERS!

But first I have to name all the stuff I've photo'ed this year.

Winter's on the way, which means I'll have plenty of time to research my missing Latin names.

Snaps By MeWally

It's wild out there and here's the evidence, taken in our and our neighbours'  wholly organic gardens.

Common Carder  Bee on a Dandelion.

This  Speckled Wood butterfly was taken in our neighbours'  wildlife garden.

This Crab Spider was also spotted in our neighbours', although we often see them in ours too.
