Notes From Her Outdoors

I love the great outdoors. There's a lot out there to keep me fascinated.

Throughout 2010 I attempted to blog every new thing I saw as it came into season, wandered past me, or was found hiding in a sneaky niche.

Now I have the task of naming all the life I recorded - life was never sweeter.

This year I'm recording the things that catch my eye. and hopefully, will catch yours too.

Wish me luck, I'm going out!

Badgers -Wednesday 18.5.11

These shots have been hanging around for a  couple of weeks.

It's mum with babies.

We think she is mother to one of the babies. The other two are siblings/twins and are independent of adults most of the time.

Badger Man

Enjoy these babies - it's that time of year!

These two are growing fast in both size and confidence. We can walk up to them and talk - quietly - at this proximity! The other baby Badger spends a lot of time with mum and both of them are very timid.

For your delight -

a couple of gratuitous shots of THIS YEARS TWINS

Badger Twins, Plus One

The Twins are getting very bold, and over the last week have had a little friend tagging along.

The third Badger always hangs back, but is almost able to make it to the food, before being spooked.

Sometimes an adult  (you can tell this because it's  fat in the face) escorts the twins. This is happening less and less now as they gain in confidence.

They'll sell their little baby souls for nuts and other proteins.

As with all life, generations come and go. In my neighbours' garden we found a dead Badger. It's a proper mess and I'm not sure what happened to it.

Whether a dog got hold of this Badger and killed it, or the Badger died and was then partially eaten, I don't know. All I do know is that I had to dispose of it. Please don't press me for the gory details.

It does explain that intense musky, farmyard smell that we thought was associated with the Muntjac deer that passed through recently (see 'Labels'). That'll be a rotting Badger/mustalid then.
