These CLITOCYBE GEOTROPA'S - Trooping Funnels, have been taunting us for weeks.
They begin as sturdy STUDS peeping through the grass and take, what feels like, an age to get up to any size.
Even now they're not that big, but are growing in such an obvious arc that I thought I should show you them before a weekend walker KICKS or PICKS them. I picked 3 today and will pick more as the days/weeks go on. They smell nasty, but, after a severe drying, are very good. With these, it's essential to leave a decent amount to spore for next season. Also these were under the Beech tree 4 years ago, in a huddle about a metre from the trunk. They have moved out, fairy ring style, each year since. It's fascinating me.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
DIPPERS are notoriously difficult to get up close to, and I can't afford a long lens. So imagine my intense pleasure when this little one flew up to me and posed,
and then around and behind me and posed
AGAIN!
HAPPY HAPPY MUD GIRLY.
SULPHER TUFT? - Hypholoma fasciclare - inedible, rather fetching, don't you think?
