Notes From Her Outdoors

I love the great outdoors. There's a lot out there to keep me fascinated.

Throughout 2010 I attempted to blog every new thing I saw as it came into season, wandered past me, or was found hiding in a sneaky niche.

Now I have the task of naming all the life I recorded - life was never sweeter.

This year I'm recording the things that catch my eye. and hopefully, will catch yours too.

Wish me luck, I'm going out!

Wasps Nest

Digging, as I do, I sometimes come across exciting things ....  Today was no exception. I noticed 4 small WASPS that wouldn't go away from a spot I'd dug earlier. They kept mooching about on the soil, covering an area of about 4ins.

I had a gentle dig where they were hanging about, to see what was what - knowing I might be in for a LITTLE LOCAL DIFFICULTY and found this tiny WASPS NEST. You can see the grubs there, they were wriggling and pure white. The wasps were not in the least bit interested in me - I'm clearly not sweet enough.

I turned the nest over to reveal neatly CAPPED CELLS. You can see my gloved finger n the shot to give an idea of the size. After all this upheaval, I reburied the nest and the wasps who had been hanging around, went sub and, I guess, set to saving their little colony.
